w/d 2009/09/08: The Mutual Spirit Awards
We are looking for special neighbourhoods in and around Aylesbury – groups of people who have pulled together to achieve something they feel passionate about.
This could be almost anything from improving the local environment, cleaning up a nature reserve or maintaining footpaths to running a book club, library or village hall cinema...If people in your neighbourhood do anything special like this, we want to hear from you!
Two good reasons to nominate your group:
- Once every six months we will reward one outstanding group with a £500 cash prize – or something of comparable value that benefits their community.
- And you could have your story featured in The Bucks Herald, which is publishing monthly articles to recognise mutual spirit in the area.
What is ‘mutual spirit’?
The best communities are those that are built on mutual spirit, where people pull together to help each other out with their problems, or to reach shared goals.
Back in the nineteenth century, people grouped together and formed building societies, so that each of them could afford to buy a house. Even today, mutual building societies are still owned and run by their members and work as a group for mutual gain.
There are many other examples of mutual spirit in and around Aylesbury. Chesham Building Society is joining forces with The Bucks Herald to recognise them.

Please note: The Mutual Spirit Awards recognises communities, and not necessarily registered charities. Chesham Building Society encourages charities to apply (separately) for charitable donations support.
